Q : Which tracking template should I use?

A: Generally, we recommend selecting "Google Ads Tracking Template."

By configuring the Tracking Template, Spider AF’s measurement parameters will be appended to the end of your ad URLs. Spider AF measures ad platform traffic using URL parameters, so enabling this setting improves detection accuracy.

Google Ads: Automatic Tracking Template Integration (Spider AF Linkage)

Account Level

 {lpurl}?saf_src=google_{network}&saf_pt={placement}&saf_kw={keyword}&saf_dv={devicemodel}&saf_cam={campaignid}&saf_grp={adgroupid}&saf_ad={creative}&account_id={account_id}&saf_acc={account_id}

Campaign Level

{lpurl}?saf_src=google_{network}&saf_pt={placement}&saf_kw={keyword}&saf_dv={devicemodel}&saf_cam={campaignid}&saf_grp={adgroupid}&saf_ad={creative}&account_id={account_id}&saf_acc={account_id}&saf_cam_tp={campaign_id}

Note: If an existing tracking template is already set, the above parameters will be added to the end of it.

Behavior if a Tracking Template exists before Spider AF integration:

  • If no tracking template is set at the campaign level: The account-level tracking template will be copied to the campaign level. Then, the Spider AF tracking template will be appended to the end of the campaign-level template.

  • If only the {lpurl} value is set at the campaign level: This value is considered a valid setting, and the account-level template will not be copied. The Spider AF tracking template will be added immediately following {lpurl}.

If Spider AF Tracking Template integration was active before August 17, 2025:

  • For accounts that only had an account-level tracking template prior to API integration with Spider AF, the Spider AF tracking template was added to campaigns created before August 17, 2025.

  • For any newly created campaigns moving forward, the account-level tracking template will be copied to the campaign level, and the Spider AF tracking template will be appended to the end.

Automatic Tracking Template Updates (ON/OFF)

When you choose to link the Spider AF tracking template, Automatic Updates will be turned ON. Once enabled, the Spider AF tracking template will automatically be applied to any new campaigns created.

If Automatic Updates is turned OFF, automatic application will stop, but any tracking templates that have already been configured will remain unchanged.

To delete a configured Spider AF tracking template:

  • Method 1: Turn OFF the automatic tracking template updates, then manually delete the Spider AF tracking template from your Google Ads account.

  • Method 2: Delete the target Google Ads account from the Spider AF management screen and then re-register it. (When deleted, all tracking templates set by Spider AF will be removed, reverting to the state before configuration.) *Please note: In this case, all exclusion settings for that Google Ads account will also be deleted.

Behavior when Google Ads API integration is removed:

  • All tracking templates added by Spider AF will be deleted.

  • If Spider AF copied an account-level template to the campaign level (when no campaign-level template existed), that copy will also be deleted, reverting to the original state.

  • If the pre-existing template was only {lpurl}, the {lpurl} will remain, and only the portion added by Spider AF will be removed.

  • All exclusion settings for that Google Ads account will be deleted.

Supplementary Information

  • Priority: Tracking parameters set at the campaign level take priority over account-level settings.

  • Eligible Campaign Conditions for Spider AF Tracking Templates:

    • Status: ENABLED / PAUSED

    • Advertising Channel Type: SEARCH / DISPLAY / PERFORMANCE_MAX / SMART / HOTEL / LOCAL / LOCAL_SERVICES / SHOPPING / DEMAND_GEN

  • If adding these parameters to the end of your URLs may interfere with your own internal tracking or measurement systems, you can select β€œDo not use.”

  • These parameters are appended to the URL only when a user clicks the ad. They are not included when the ad is displayed and are added to the destination URL only after the click occurs.
