This guide explains how to set up invalid click exclusions for X (Twitter) Ads.

Getting started

For each advertising platform, you will create a new audience tag for Spider AF (pixel tag / event tag).

Spider AF will trigger the corresponding audience tag (pixel tag / event tag) when fraudulent clicks occur.

Based on the firing data of that audience tag, you can create an audience list that includes only the users who generated fraudulent clicks.

By applying this audience list as delete targeting (exclusion targeting) in each ad campaign, you can prevent ads from being delivered to users who have previously caused fraudulent clicks.

※ We generally recommend applying this exclusion setting to all campaigns.

※When creating a new ad campaign or ad set, please ensure that the Spider AF audience list is set as an exclusion target.

Setup Steps

Excluding invalid clicks on X (Twitter) Ads involves two main steps:

  1. Create a new Pixel tag in X Ads Manager for Spider AF, then register the Tag ID in the Spider AF dashboard.

  2. Create the audience list and configure ad delivery exclusion (Delete Targeting / Negative Targeting).

1. Create a Pixel Tag in X (Twitter) Ads Manager and Register it with Spider AF

Note: You must issue a new event tag specifically for Spider AF. Please do not use any of your existing event tags for this setup.

  1. Log in to X (Twitter) and go to Ads Manager.

  2. From the top menu, select "Tools""Events Manager".

  3. Click the "Add event" button located at the top right of the screen.

  4. Fill in Event Details and click Next.

    Name: Set a name of your choice.

    Event Type: Select "Page view".

    Post-engagement attribution window: Select "30 days.

    Post-view attribution window: Select "1 day".

    Website activity audience: ON.

    Setup method: Select "Define event with code".

    Note: Please ensure that ”Website activity audience” is turned on, otherwise the audience will not be created.

  5. Check your Pixel ID under “Website Code”.

    (No need to check the checkbox at the top of the page.)

    Code Example:

    <!-- Twitter conversion tracking event code -->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    // Insert Twitter Event ID
    twq('event', 'tw-PixelID-EventID', {
    });
    </script>
    <!-- End Twitter conversion tracking event code -->

  6. In the Spider AF dashboard, go to the Configrations tab on the left, select "Ad Network," and then select "Twitter Ads."

  7. Click "Add Twitter Pixel ID" located on the right or at the bottom of the screen.

  8. Input the ID copied in Step 6 into the following fields:

    ・Twitter Pixel ID: Enter the "PixelID" portion from the code in Step 6 (Alphanumeric).

    ・Twitter Event ID: Enter the "EventID" portion from the code in Step 6 (Alphanumeric).

    ・Tracker Selection: Select the corresponding tracker for the Spider AF analysis tag.

    Tag name is optional, but if you manage multiple products, we recommend naming it with the product or brand name for easier reference later.

    ・⚠️ Note: If the tracker link count is "0," exclusion settings are not active. You must select at least one tracker.

    ・⚠️ Note: If your Spider AF account permissions are set to “integration only,” you cannot select a tracker. In this case, please provide the Tag ID and product information to the advertiser or to us.

  9. Click "Add Twitter Pixel ID" to complete the audience tag issuance.

    Note: You do not need to install the issued pixel tag on your website.

    (The system is designed to trigger the media pixel tags via the already-installed Spider AF LP analysis tag whenever an invalid click is detected.)

2. Create an Audience List and Configure Exclusion

  1. Log in to X (Twitter) and access the Ads Manager.

  2. From the top menu, select "Tools""Audiences".

  3. Confirm that the audience created in Step 1 (“Issue a Pixel Tag in X (Twitter) Ads Manager and Register it with Spider AF”) appears in the list.

  4. From the top menu, select "Campaigns""Ads Manager".

  5. Select the Ad Group where you want to apply the exclusion and click “Edit targeting”.

    Note: Audience exclusions in X Ads are configured at the Ad Group level.

  6. Under the Custom Audiences section, select "Excluded accounts".

    • Click the right side to open the dropdown menu, go to “Website activity”, and select the audience you created.

    • Note: Exclusion settings can only be applied once the audience size has reached 100 or more.

    • Note: Audience size may differ from the number of invalid accesses detected by Spider AF, so counts may not match exactly.

  7. Click the "Save" button at the bottom right to apply the audience exclusion.

Reminder: Whenever you add a new ad group, please make sure to manually apply the Spider AF audience list to the exclusion settings.
