Introduction

To use audience exclusion with Twitter, you first create an audience tag, which we use to build the audience for exclusion.

Create a new audience tag (pixel tag / event tag) specifically for Spider AF within each advertising platform.

When an invalid click occurs, Spider AF will trigger the corresponding audience tag. This allows for the creation of an audience list composed exclusively of users who have engaged in invalid click activity, based on the trigger data from that tag.

By applying "Delete Targeting" (Exclusion Settings) to this audience list across your advertising campaigns, you can prevent ads from being served to those fraudulent users in the future.

  • Note: We generally recommend applying these exclusion settings to all campaigns.

  • Note: If you add a new campaign, please ensure you manually apply the Spider AF audience list to the "Delete Targeting" settings for that campaign.

Setup Steps

Excluding invalid clicks on X (Twitter) Ads involves two main steps:

  1. Issue a new Pixel tag in the X Ads Manager for Spider AF use, then register that Tag ID in the Spider AF dashboard.

  2. Create the audience list and configure the ad delivery exclusion (Negative Targeting).

1. Issue a Pixel Tag in X (Twitter) Ads Manager and Register it with Spider AF

Note: You must issue a new event tag specifically for Spider AF. Please do not use any of your existing event tags for this setup.

  1. Log in to X (Twitter) and access the Ads Manager.

  2. From the top menu, select "Tools""Events Manager."

  3. Click the "Add event" button located at the top right of the screen.

  4. Name: Set a name of your choice.

    Event Type: Select "Page visit" (formerly Site Visit).

    Post-engagement attribution window: Select "30 days.

    Post-view attribution window: Select "1 day."

    Toggle "Website activity audience" to ON.

    Note: Please ensure this is turned on, otherwise the audience will not be created.

    Click Next.

  5. Setup Method

    Select "Define event with code."

  6. Confirm Pixel ID

    Check your Pixel ID under "Website code." (There is no need to check the checkbox at the top of the page.)

    (If your Spider AF permissions are set for agencies, please copy and share the ID with the advertiser.)

    Code Example:

    <!-- Twitter conversion tracking event code -->
    <script type="text/javascript">
    // Insert Twitter Event ID
    twq('event', 'tw-PixelID-EventID', {
    });
    </script>
    <!-- End Twitter conversion tracking event code -->
  7. Navigate to Ad Networks

    In the Spider AF admin dashboard, select "Configrations" from the left tab, click "Ad Networks," and then select "Twitter Ads."

  8. Add Pixel ID

    Click "Add Twitter Pixel ID" located on the right or at the bottom of the screen.

  9. Configure Settings

    Input the ID copied in Step 4 into the following fields:

    ・Twitter Pixel ID: Enter the "PixelID" portion from the code in Step 6 (Alphanumeric).

    ・Twitter Event ID: Enter the "EventID" portion from the code in Step 6 (Alphanumeric).

    ・Tracker Selection: Select the corresponding tracker for the Spider AF analysis tag.

    Note: If the tracker link count is "0," exclusion settings are not active. You must select at least one tracker.

    ・Pixel Name: This is arbitrary, but if you have multiple products, we recommend including the product or brand name for easy identification later.

    Note: If your Spider AF dashboard permission is set to "Integration Only," you will not be able to select trackers. In this case, please provide the configured Pixel ID and the target product to the advertiser or our support team.

  10. Complete Issue

    Click "Add Twitter Pixel ID" to complete the audience tag issuance.

    Note: You do not need to install the issued pixel tag on your website. (The system is designed to fire the media pixel tags via the already-installed Spider AF LP analysis tag whenever an invalid click is detected.)

2. Audience List Creation and Ad Exclusion (Negative Targeting)

  1. Log in to X (Twitter) and access the Ads Manager.

  2. From the top menu, select "Tools""Audiences."

  3. Confirm that the audience name created in the Step1 "Issue a Pixel Tag in X (Twitter) Ads Manager and Register it with Spider AF" appears in the list.

  4. From the top menu, select "Campaigns""Ads Manager."

  5. Select the Ad Group where you want to apply the exclusion and click "Edit targeting."

    Note: Audience exclusions in X Ads are configured at the Ad Group level.

  6. Under the Custom Audiences section, select "Excluded accounts."

    • Click the right side to open the dropdown menu, go to "Website activity," and select the audience you created.

    • Note: Exclusion settings can only be applied once the audience size has reached 100 or more.

    • Note: The audience size definition differs from the number of invalid accesses detected by Spider AF, so there may be a discrepancy in the counts.

  7. Click the "Save" button at the bottom right to apply the audience exclusion.

Reminder: Whenever you add a new ad group, please ensure you manually apply the Spider AF audience list to the exclusion settings.
