Choose your preferred setup method (Recommended or Fastest way)
Connect your Google Ads account and install the Spider AF tracking tag.
Your free trial starts once these three steps are complete.
If your account was created for you by another party, or if you no longer have access to the onboarding screens, please follow this article to set up from the dashboard.
💡 For more accurate detection, we also recommend installing the Spider AF Conversion tag on your conversion page (thank-you page) after your trial starts. This is optional and is explained at the end of this article.
1. Select the product you'd like to try
After completing your registration, you'll see the “Welcome to Spider AF” screen.
This guide will walk you through how to start your free trial of Ad Fraud Protection.
To get started, click “Start free trial” under “Ad Fraud Protection” on the left side of the screen.
Note: You can start with one service and activate free trials for the other services (Fake Lead Protection and SiteScan) later.
2. Choose your preferred setup method
After clicking “Start free trial,” you will see the “Welcome to Adfraud Protection!” screen.
There are two setup options. Select “Setup via Google & Tracker” on the left, which is the recommended option, and click “Continue with Google & Tracker.”
3. Connect your Google Ads account and install the Spider AF tracking tag.
You'll be directed to the setup page. Complete the following three steps in order:
Link a Google Ads account
Integrate the Spider AF tracker
Configure location-based protection
STEP 1: Link a Google Ads account
Click “Connect a Google Ads account.”
Click “Sign in with Google.”
Once you have signed in, “Connected” appears under the Step 1.
Next, under “STEP 2: GOOGLE ADS ACCOUNT,” select the Google Ads account you'd like to connect.
Make sure “Select from available accounts” is selected, then choose the Google Ads account you'd like to use for your free trial from the “Available accounts” dropdown menu.
⚠️ Note:
If you're using a Google Ads Manager Account (MCC), select an individual Google Ads account managed under the MCC, rather than the MCC account itself.
Only Google Ads accounts with an “Enabled” status will appear in the list. Suspended, paused, or canceled accounts will not be displayed.
If the Google Ads account you'd like to connect doesn't appear in the list, select “Enter Google Ads account ID directly” and enter your account ID.
Once you've selected or entered your account, click “Confirm account” to review the settings that will be applied.
To review the changes to your tracking template, select a campaign and compare the existing settings (CURRENT) with the updated settings (AFTER).
STEP 2: Integrate Spider AF tracker
Integrating the Spider AF tracker allows you to monitor incoming traffic on your site and detect invalid activity. You can choose an installation method from the tabs (“Use Google Tag Manager,” “Add tracker to your site,” and “Send to a Developer”). This article explains the “Use Google Tag Manager” option.
Option 1: Guided integration via GTM (Fastest)
The quickest and easiest way to integrate Spider AF, with guided steps for setting up tags in your Google Tag Manager. Click “Start GTM Guided Integration” and follow the on-screen instructions.
Option 2: Manual installation via GTM
If you prefer a manual approach, you can add the Spider AF tag to GTM yourself. Click “Copy to clipboard” to copy the tag, then set it up in GTM.
Check the integration
After installing the tag, click “Check integration and finish” to automatically check that the tag is firing correctly.
⚠️ The check may take a few minutes. Right after publishing in GTM, it can take 2–3 minutes for data to appear. This does not mean there is a setup error. If the tag is not detected, wait a moment and click “Check again for data.”
STEP 3: Location-based protection
Once the tracker is integrated, the location-based protection settings screen appears. Under “Select allowed countries,” choose the option that matches where you run your ads.
Japan: All clicks from outside Japan are flagged as invalid clicks (IVT). Choose this if you want clicks from outside Japan to be treated as invalid.
All countries: No filtering by country. Choose this if clicks from overseas should be treated as valid.
💡 During the free trial, this setting is used only to detect and report invalid clicks. Automatic blocking of invalid clicks is available only with a paid plan.
Setup complete
Once the integration is successfully completed, you'll see the “Congratulations!” screen.
Click “Proceed to Dashboard” to access your Spider AF dashboard and start your free trial.
4. After Starting Your Free Trial
To improve the accuracy of invalid traffic detection and gain more detailed insights, we recommend completing the following additional setup after accessing your dashboard.
Install the conversion tag (recommended)
By installing the Spider AF conversion tracking tag on your conversion page (such as a thank-you page), you can also detect invalid conversions and gain better visibility into how invalid traffic affects your campaign performance.
