Ad Booster — Set Up Conversion Tag Firing (Automatic GTM Integration)

This guide walks you through the automatic GTM integration for Ads Booster, the Ad Fraud Protection add-on that controls when your conversion tags fire — ensuring only valid, Spider AF-verified traffic triggers your conversion pixels.

Written by Takahiro Ohtsuki

Introduction

Ads Booster integrates with Google Tag Manager to automatically control when your conversion tags fire. Only valid traffic, verified by Spider AF, triggers your conversion pixels, so your ad platforms optimise toward real customers.

Permissions Required for Configuration

The user performing this configuration must have [Publish] permissions for the container.

The setup consists of a 4-step guided wizard:

  1. Authorization — reuses your existing GTM connection from Ad Fraud setup

  2. Configuration — select your GTM account, container, workspace, and Spider AF tracker

  3. Select Tags — choose which conversion tags to protect

  4. Confirm & Publish — review and apply changes to GTM

⚠️ Prerequisite: Spider AF Conversion Tag — Ads Booster requires the Spider AF conversion tag to be installed on your website. This tag is what detects valid conversions and enables Ads Booster to control your conversion tags. If you haven’t installed it yet, follow the [conversion tag installation guide] before proceeding.

Getting Started

  1. Navigate to Ad Fraud Protection → Ad Performance → Ads Booster in the left sidebar.

  2. On the Ads Booster page, review the three capabilities offered:

    • Protect Conversion Data — prevents fraudulent clicks from triggering conversion tags

    • Optimize Ad Spend — ensures ad platforms only see real conversions for smarter bidding

    • Automated GTM Setup — Spider AF handles creating triggers and attaching them to your conversion tags

  3. Under Set Up Ads Booster via GTM, click Configure GTM Integration.

Step 1 — Authorization

The Ads Booster — GTM Setup side panel opens, showing a 4-step progress indicator: Authorization → Configuration → Select Tags → Confirm & Publish.

If you have already connected your GTM account during the Ad Fraud Protection setup, Authorization will be completed automatically. The step will show a green checkmark and the panel will advance directly to Configuration.

ℹ️ If your GTM account is not yet connected, you will be prompted to authorise access to your Google account at this step before proceeding.

Step 2 — Configuration

In this step, Spider AF identifies which GTM container and Spider AF tracker to use for Ads Booster.

  1. The Configuration panel opens with a GTM Account dropdown. Select the GTM account that contains your website’s container.

  1. Once you select the GTM account, the following fields will appear in sequence. Select the appropriate option for each:

    • Container — select the container for your website (e.g. portugaltravelconcierge.com)

    • Workspace — select the workspace to configure (e.g. Default Workspace)

    • Tracker Property — select which Spider AF tracker property to configure with Ads Booster (e.g. wizard_tracker (taxkk45o))

Each confirmed selection shows a green checkmark.

  1. Click Proceed to continue.

Step 3 — Select Tags to Protect

In this step, you choose which conversion tags Ads Booster should control. Spider AF will protect selected tags by creating or updating trigger groups so they only fire for valid traffic.

The panel is divided into two sections:

  • Already Protected — tags that are already protected by Spider AF, either through a trigger group or a direct trigger attachment. These are displayed with a Protected badge and require no action.

  • Available Tags — tags that are available to protect. Each tag must have at least one existing trigger to be eligible. Select the tags you want Ads Booster to protect.

⚠️ Each tag you select must have at least one existing trigger in GTM. Tags without triggers cannot be protected by Ads Booster.

  1. Select the conversion tags you want to protect from the Available Tags list.

  2. Click Proceed to continue to the final step.

Step 4 — Confirm & Publish

Review the summary of changes Spider AF will apply to your GTM container, then click Finish & Publish to finalise the setup.

Spider AF will create or update the necessary trigger groups and attach them to your selected conversion tags.

After a few seconds All will be setup and and you will see a green check. AdBooster addon is now fully integrated.
