Introduction
Thank you for subscribing to Spider AF Ad Fraud Protection.
Before you can start using the service, there are several required setup items that must be completed between signing the contract and the start of service.
Let’s complete the initial setup by following this guide.
The steps to get started are as follows:
✏️ Two steps to complete
1. Complete the initial setup
2. Check your block status
If you have any questions while working through the setup, please contact us via the customer chat in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
1. Complete the initial setup by the day before your service start date
What you need to do for the initial setup
☑️ Invite users *
☑️ Install the tracking tag *
☑️ Set up Google fixed IP exclusions
☑️ Configure your ad channels *
☑️ Configure exclusion settings *
☑️ Configure CPC settings
Items marked with * are required.
⚠️ Please note: Blocking and Exclusion protection will not start unless you complete these 3 required items: installing the tracking tag, configuring your ad channels, and configuring exclusion settings.
[Required] Invite users
If the people responsible for setting up SpiderAF have not been invited to the SpiderAF dashboard yet, please invite them as users.
Manual: Help page: How to invite users | Settings page
⚠️ There are three user roles: Admin, Standard, and Integration-only.
For example, if you work with multiple agencies and do not want to share detection data between them, select Integration-only.
[Required] Install the tracking tag
Please install the tag on all landing pages (LPs) that you want to analyze (set up on a domain basis).
Manual:
[Required] How to install the LP tracking tag
[Optional] How to install the CV tag
⚠️ This is a critical tag for click analysis and blocking.
Please be sure to install the LP tracking tag.
✏️ Setup completion checklist
Open the Overview page in the dashboard and confirm that the number of analyzed clicks is being counted.
If you installed the CV tag (optional), check whether CVR data is reflected on the admin page: Duplicate clicks by the same IP/browser.
[Optional / Recommended] Configure Google fixed IP exclusions
For Google invalid click protection, IP exclusions are used.
With IP exclusions, Spider AF will automatically register and keep up to date high-impact fraudulent IPs in your Google Ads account’s IP exclusion list.
If there are any IP addresses you want to exclude on Google on an ongoing basis, please register them here.
Use this for IPs you always want to exclude, such as your company office network or specific partner companies.
Settings page — go to “Manual IP Exclusion” in the top-right.
⚠️ Important: If you set IP exclusions directly in the Google Ads admin console, they will be overwritten and removed every time Spider AF performs an automatic update. Be sure to register any fixed IP exclusions from this screen.
⚠️ If you need to register more than 50 IP addresses, please contact the Customer Success team.
✏️ Setup completion checklist
In Protection > IP Exclusion, under Manual IP Exclusion, confirm that your desired fixed-exclusion IPs have been registered.
[Required] Configure your Ad Networks
Please complete the ad channel setup for each ad network you want to protect.
Manual:
Google Ads API integration: https://help.spideraf.com/en/articles/8880711
Yahoo Ads API integration: https://help.spideraf.com/en/articles/8880650
Other ad networks setup: https://help.spideraf.com/en/collections/8461282
⚠️ For steps that must be configured in each ad platform’s own interface, we cannot verify whether they have been completed on our side. Please make sure to complete all steps described in the manuals.
✏️ Setup completion checklist
・On the Ad Network page, open the page for the connected channel and confirm that the toggles for IP Exclusion, Audience Exclusion, and Placement Exclusion (Elite plan or higher) are turned ON/OFF as needed for Google/Yahoo.
・For Google, also confirm that none of the policy restrictions listed under “⚠️ <Google Ads Only> Regarding Personalized Ads” on this help page apply to your setup: https://help.spideraf.com/en/articles/13157377
・For other ad networks, confirm that the pixel ID you configured is correctly linked in the Spider AF dashboard.
[Required] Configure exclusion settings
Please complete the exclusion settings by the day before your service start date.
Manual:
[All plans] How to set up invalid click exclusions: https://help.spideraf.com/en/articles/13157377
[Elite plan and above: additional setup required] How to set up placement exclusions: https://help.spideraf.com/en/articles/13157396
⚠️ Please note: If you do not complete the exclusion settings in addition to the Ad Network setup, exclusions may not start. Be sure to double-check your configuration status.
⚠️ If your product/service is subject to restrictions under Google’s Personalized Advertising policy, please read the cautions in the help page carefully.
⚠️ Even if you turn each toggle ON, exclusions will generally be applied from the subscription start date onward.
✏️ Setup completion checklist
On the Blocking Rules page, are the exclusion categories turned ON/OFF as desired?
Is the configuration for Frequency Cap (Duplicate clicks by the same IP/browser) set to your desired values?
For Location-based blocking, are the target countries whitelisted, and is the setting turned ON if you want to exclude them?
(Elite and above plans) In the Placement Rule Sets, are Brand Safety and MFA site exclusions configured ON/OFF as desired for each ad account?
(Elite and above plans) In the Placement Rule Sets, is the target language for site-language targeting selected as desired?
[Optional / Recommended] Configure CPC settings
Spider AF calculates your cost savings by multiplying the number of blocked clicks by the CPC registered in the dashboard.
By setting the CPC for each ad channel in the dashboard, Spider AF can calculate cost savings more accurately. Please configure these settings accordingly.
⚠️ If you do not configure this, cost savings will be calculated using a flat rate of 1 USD per click.
✏️ Setup completion checklist
In Settings > CPC, confirm that the CPC for each ad channel you want to protect has been set.
If everything above has been completed without issues, all that’s left is to wait for your service start date.
2. Check your block status after your service start date
After your service start date, check in the dashboard to make sure blocking has started properly.
✏️ How to check
On the dashboard, if the “Blocked Clicks” metric is being counted, the service is running normally.
⚠️ For customers using Criteo or RTB House
Due to platform limitations, Spider AF cannot display the “Blocked Clicks” metric for these channels in the dashboard.
However, blocking/exclusion protection is still active in the background.
Notes about your contract / subscription
About error notifications
If the system detects an API integration error, an email will be sent from support@spideraf.com to your registered email address with details of the error.
These emails may be sent multiple times from the day the error occurs up to 14 days after. After that, even if the error continues, automatic monitoring will stop and notifications will be disabled.
Therefore, once you receive an email, please follow the instructions and take action (e.g., re-connect the integration) as soon as possible.
In particular, for Google and Yahoo API integrations, if the account used for the integration no longer has sufficient permissions, the integration will fail and exclusion protection will stop.
For Google, Standard access or higher is required at all times. For Yahoo, Update (registration/update) permission or higher is required.
If permissions become insufficient after setup, please re-connect the API using an account with the required permissions (Standard or higher / Update or higher).
About overage charges
If your paid clicks exceed your plan’s limit, an additional charge of $100 per 30,000 clicks will apply.
For overage charges, our accounting team (accounting@spideraf.com) will email you an invoice around three business days after your billing date. Please check the invoice when you receive it.
If you would like to check your overage status yourself, review the monthly click count on the Overview page or the Report page.
