How to Set Up Invalid Click Exclusion for Google Ads

This guide explains the steps to configure settings for excluding invalid clicks in your Google Ads account.

Written by Takahiro Ohtsuki

Introduction

To enable invalid click protection, you must first establish an API connection between Spider AF and your Google Ads account. After the connection is established, please proceed to Step 7: Invalid Click & Invalid Placement .

Exclusion Settings. (Not applicable for free trial users).

⚠️ Important Notes

  • Permissions: Please use a Google account with Standard or Administrator access for the API connection.

  • Ensure these settings are completed for all ad accounts you wish to protect.

  • If the person with Standard or Administrator access has not been invited to the Spider AF dashboard yet, please send them an invitation.

  • For External Partners (Agencies, etc.): If your account is managed by an external party, you can invite them using the "Integration Only" permission level. This restricts their access specifically to the setup screens.

Google Ads Setup Procedures

  1. Access Settings: Log in to Spider AF. From the left sidebar, navigate to Ad Fraud Protection > Configurations > Ad Networks.

  2. Connect your account: Select Google Ads and click "Connect an ad account" to start the API integration.

  3. Authorize your Google account: You’ll be redirected to the Google sign-in page. Select the appropriate account and click Allow to grant access.

  4. After being redirected back, click Next on the transition screen.

  5. Select Accounts & Tracking Template: * Use the dropdown menu under "Select accounts to link" to choose all ad accounts you want to protect.

    • Tracking Template Settings: We highly recommend selecting "Use Tracking Template."

      • This adds Spider AF measurement parameters to the end of your ad URLs, significantly improving detection accuracy.

      • However, if a fragment identifier (#) is present, the Spider AF parameters may be inserted before it.

        e.g. : [Base URL] + & + [SpiderAF Parameter] + #AAA=XXX

      • Spider AF tracks and measures media sources based on URL parameters. By configuring these, we can improve measurement accuracy, such as distinguishing between Search, Display, or P-MAX and retrieving keyword data. (Please note that this does not affect the invalid click exclusion itself.)

      • For more information about the Spider AF tracking template, please refer to this page.

      • Standard Parameters: &saf_src=google_{network}&saf_pt={placement}&saf_kw={keyword}&saf_dv={devicemodel}&saf_cam={campaignid}&saf_grp={adgroupid}&saf_ad={creative}

      • Note: These are only added when a user clicks the ad. If adding parameters causes issues with your site, select "Do not set any Tracking Template."

        <Select Accounts>

  6. Complete API Integration: Click "Finish" to apply the tracking template, then click "Close" on the confirmation page. The basic API connection is now completed.

  7. Finalize Exclusion Settings:

    Important: Complete the following steps to activate IP, Audience, and Placement exclusions. Without these, protection will not be fully functional.

    • ① For All Accounts: IP & Audience Exclusion

    • ② For Elite Plan & Above: Placement Exclusion
